The idea of collecting versus connecting dots was such an interesting way to view learning and really aligns with many of my thoughts that I have when reflecting on my teachers. My curriculum that I teach within is extremely rigid and the timeline we are locked to rarely leaves time for discovery. However, I have found that when I am able to manipulate pacing enough to work in lessons that are based around students truly interacting with the mathematical concepts in an authentic manner, the quality of comprehension is hands down above what I typically see. This is certainly a learned process and could only increase from more frequent exposure.
Prior to beginning this program, I was unfamiliar with ePortfolios, aside from knowing it was a website about oneself. However, after interacting with ePortfolios in EDLD 5302, I become aware of the true power ePortfolios have and began to think of ways to implement them into my classroom. I feel they can paint the whole picture of the individual and to give the author a way to express themselves around their learning. Despite what my organization may believe, I feel that ePortfolios could paint a more vivid picture and assess learning more appropriately than standardized assessments. With my innovation plan being based around blended learning, I think I can build ePortfolios in along the way.
