Usability Reflection

It is one thing to created a blended learning course, heck, anyone can do that, but it is another to put it into action. Prior to implementing my blended learning model into my Algebra 1 classroom, I had to stakeholders in my district run through the design and some content to provide me with feedback. My findings can be found below.

Below you will find Casey Gendron's reflection on my blended learning course. Casey is a middle school learning support teacher in our neighboring district, however, she did teach within our district for a bit. She also lives within our school district and has two young daughters who will eventually attend my school.

Below you will find Stephanie Leister's reflection on my blended learning course. Stephanie is our staff developer at my school at has a substantial background around technology in learning. Her reflection was more of a summary/overview of the course. Providing some insight from a district employee at a curriculum and design level.

Navigating the Introduction/Overview/Start Here Section

  • Able to locate the Schoology course easily.

  • On the Materials page, the Start Here folder is clearly labeled and listed first.

  • Within the folder, introductory materials are clearly labeled to click on without confusion.

    • All materials are relevant and informative to the course, as well as in working order.

    • Instructor establishes effective communication, such as a personal bio, back to school night video to share classroom expectations, a letter to parents, and an area for students to leave any questions, comments, or concerns.

  • Instructor also included a General Course Information folder which contains pertinent information, such as the goal of the course, office hours, options for additional support, the course syllabus, and second chance learning policy/guidelines.

  • Furthermore, there is a folder entitled Additional Online Resources for Extra Help, in which course participants can practice with video tutorials, written worksheets, and written tutorials.

  • The course instructor was cognizant of the need to have information presented in various modalities, yet not making the information redundant to the course participants.

Modules (Content Based)

  • On the Materials page, the module folders are clearly labeled and listed below a sign stating Modules will be located below that point.

  • It was helpful having an Overview listed first for the module, stating the concepts and objectives of the module in addition to how to navigate through the module.

  • Useful scaffolds included, such as guided notes and practice. File types were conducive to the type of activity the course participants need to complete.

  • Lessons clearly labeled and listed in order.
