As a new teacher, I knew reflection was going to be one of the most important ways to continue to grow as an educator, but I had never really thought of how I was going to do it. Initially, I would simply type in a OneNote under where I kept my files. Although this kept it organized, I never found myself going back into my Unit 2 section in May, so they were essentially lost thoughts. I was not familiar with an ePortfolio and not aware of the power it had. Having an all-in-one place to share thoughts and resources but also receive feedback from others and compile projects truly provides an environment that can host all.
Additionally, when starting this program and brainstorming ideas for my innovation plan, I never thought about the idea of having my students create ePortfolios. My initial thought was that it just didn’t fit in the math classroom, however, now that I have interacted with them more and seen the power that they have, I have many ideas of smaller scales ways that I could implement them. Particularly, with most students’ math careers being 4 years in high school, this can turn into a way to see the growth and strides students have made throughout their journeys.
